In this section I interview bloggers of very interesting and inspiring blogs. I did this to give you tips on how to get a better blog and to let you see things from other perspectives. Maybe you can find a blogger who fits totally to your opinion! Every week I interview a different blogger. I hope you enjoy!
This time I interviewed Merrick from Merrick's Art. It's a very cool DIY blog full of good ideas to, as usually with a DIY blog, Do Yourself. I found her blog on the internet and I thought it would be nice if she gave us some tips and I was happy to hear she was glad to be interviewed. You can read the interview when you click on read more.
Please introduce yourself.
Hi, I'm Merrick from Merrick's Art, where I blog about personal style, sewing and refashioning, and family life!
Why (and when) did you start blogging?
Back when I was in college and studying fine art, I started my blog as a way to document my artistic progress, and basically show my mom what I was working on. Since then it's evolved and morphed continually, documenting my interests, passions, and growing family.
What keeps you blogging?
Partly the people -- the blogging community is so great, and when I receive nice comments from people, it motivates me to keep going. But also, because I just really like to document projects that I'm working on. I'll always love to sew, and get dressed, and refashion clothing, so I'll always have something to blog about. But if it ever became a chore, I'd quit, because it's not worth it for me to spend so much time in blogging if it's not enjoyable for me.
Please describe your style.
Becoming a mom has changed and evolved my style a lot. My lifestyle requires comfort and practicality, but I love to mix it up with fun color and pattern combinations, interesting jewelry and accessories, and cute shoes. For some, becoming a mom means you don't care about your appearance anymore. For me, it's the opposite. I suddenly care more than ever, because I want my kids to see me take care of myself and take time for myself, and I want my husband to still think I look good even after several kids!
Where do you buy your clothes?
All over the place -- but mostly places where I can get a good deal!
Who is/are your style icon(s)?
I don't think I really have a particular style icon -- but when I see other moms out there that are dressed well and taking care of themselves, I definitely look up to them and try to keep up.
How does your blog make progress?
The more I blog, the more I reach out to other bloggers, and the more I explore my interests and passions, the more my blog grows and progresses.
What do you like the most about blogging?
Like I said before, I think it's the people. I love seeing others ideas, projects, style, and lives, and that motivates me.
Are there any things you don’t like about blogging?
There is definitely a big time commitment if you want your blog to grow, but it's almost always worth it for me.
Do you have any difficulties with finding new topics to post about? Why or why not?
No, not usually, because my blog covers such a wide variety of subjects that I feel like nothing is off limits to post about.
Is it easy to blog and why?
Yes, it's usually easy because I blog about what I love. It's always easy to talk about that.
What do you think of your readers?
I have a wonderful readership -- supportive, kind, and interested.
Who is your target group?
I don't have any particular target audience that I've worked for, but I think mostly women between the ages of 16-45 are my main readers.
Are there any people who help you with your blog?
No, except my husband who just motivates me and supports me!
Do you have sponsors for your blog? Yes, what did they sponsor? No, why not?
Yes, I accept sponsors, and they are either other blogs, small shops, or big companies.
What did you do to gain followers?
Just kept blogging and putting myself out there. Linking up to other people, commenting, and then posting good content has brought all my followers.
Which interesting blogs do you follow and why?
I follow a lot of fashion blogs because they provide inspiration for my blog and my life. But I also follow quite a few family life blogs, as well as cooking blogs, just because they interest me.
Do you have any tips for people who try to create a good blog?
Put yourself out there -- people find your blog when you comment regularly or join linkups, or sponsor, or swap buttons. Also, a good blog design is huge for me. If a blog design is obviously poorly done, I usually don't stick around because it tells me the content will be similar. And finally, posting regularly is important, as long as it's good content. I don't love filler posts just to have a post every day, but good quality photos and interesting content several times a week is very appealing to most readers.
